APRIL SYMPHONY CONCERT TO SHOWCASES SIDE BY SIDE WITH LOCAL STUDENTS

(Midland/Odessa, Texas) West Texas Symphony presents BRAHMS! at the world-class Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 13 at 7:30pm.

The evening will feature violinist Reuben Kebede performing Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s popular work, “Violin Concerto”. Reuben is currently a member of the resident graduate string quartet at Juilliard.

Also featured will be approximately 25 students from middle school through college joining the orchestra on stage for Johannes Brahms popular “Academic Festive Overture”. “We are thrilled to bring back the 2nd iteration of the annual side-by-side performance! Through the coordination of Maestro Lewis and UTPB Orchestra Director Dr. Jean Gómez, we are creating an opportunity for some of the hardest-working student musicians in the Permian Basin to be on stage with our professional orchestral musicians, under Maestro Lewis’ leadership. This is a once in a lifetime experience for many of them, and we cherish the team that makes it all work! We look forward to more involvement from our local ISD Directors in the greater Permian Basin: it’s through collaborations like these that enhance the quality of life in West Texas.”, explains Ethan Wills, WTS Executive Director.

Audiences will also enjoy Brahms’ “Variation on a Theme by Haydn” and “Hungarian Dances” to converse in celebration of the composer’s monumental influence on orchestral music.

Violinist Reuben Kebede has performed recitals across the U.S. and Europe. As first violinist of the Ivalas Quartet, Juilliard’s Graduate Resident String Quartet, he is currently a Lisa Arnhold Fellow at The Juilliard School. He received an Artist Diploma in string quartet performance from CU Boulder under the tutelage of Edward Dusinberre, Harumi Rhodes, and the members of the Takaìcs Quartet. Previously, he studied with Danielle Belen at the University of Michigan, where he served as concertmaster of both university orchestras, and with Sarah Plum at Drake University.

Masterworks performances are a great value for the whole family! Tickets start at just $12 and can be purchased at WTXS.ORG or by calling 800-514-3849. All student tickets are $12 with a paying adult or valid college ID.
