Date: November 15, 2016
Time: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM CST
Event Description:
Texas Tech University System Chancellor Robert L. Duncan and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) President Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., will join officials from the TTUHSC at the Permian Basin as they break ground on the new Academic Building on the Odessa campus. Officials will also announce the public phase of the Your Life, Our Purpose campaign.
3 p.m., Nov. 15 (Tuesday)
TTUHSC at the Permian Basin, 800 W. 4th St., Odessa

The 51,000-square-foot Academic Building will house lecture halls, smaller classrooms, research laboratories, offices, conference areas and additional support space. These facilities will allow the Permian Basin campus to increase the number of graduate students it accepts for medical and other related health care disciplines.

In August, the Facilities Committee of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents voted to approve construction of the new Permian Basin Academic Facility.  The project’s $22.3 million budget includes more than $14.25 million in Tuition Revenue Bonds authorized by the 84th Texas Legislature. In addition, more than $5.54 million will come from institutional funds.

The Your Life, Our Purpose campaign’s goal is $150 million, and will go toward advancing education, research initiatives and patient care at all TTUHSC campuses.

The campaign event will debut artist’s renderings of the approved expansion to the TTUHSC Lubbock campus, which will add a conference center, educational space and state-of-the-art gross anatomy laboratory.

Your Life, Our Purpose will give scholarships to help assist students on all campuses. Additionally, campaign contributions will go to continuing
TTUHSC research and projects working in conjunction with other institutions within the Texas Tech University System.

A reception will follow the ground breaking and campaign announcement.
