Time:
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM CST
Event Description:
The Permian Basin community is invited to join the Quilts of Valor Foundation in honoring our nation’s heroes during the annual Quilts of Valor presentation ceremony. This year’s event will take place at 2 pm on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at The First United Pentecostal Church, located at 1700 N. Texas, Odessa, TX. The ceremony will honor 26 Veterans from various conflicts, including Vietnam, the Cold War, the Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. Three of the honorees have the distinction of serving combat deployments in two wars. One such Veteran, retired U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Ed Duchac began and concluded his military career in combat, starting with four tours in Vietnam and ending as the Battalion Maintenance Chief for the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, known as the 'Wolf Pack,' during the first Gulf War. Gunny Duchac has volunteered for the Permian Basin Red Cross since relocating to Texas seven years ago and made more than a dozen disaster relief deployments throughout the nation before an injury forced him stay off his feet. In 2023, he was named the Permian Basin Red Cross. Gunny Duchac was nominated by his daughter, Sandy Duchac, a Navy Veteran. Quilts of Valor are lovingly made by volunteers to offer comfort and express gratitude for the service rendered by these brave men and women. Each quilt is a lifetime award that recognizes and thanks our Veterans for their service and sacrifice. Join us as we wrap our heroes in comfort and gratitude with the gift of a Quilt of Valor. Your presence is a valued part of our celebration and acknowledgment of their service.
