National Summer Learning Week

  • Share:
Name: National Summer Learning Week
Date: July 6, 2020 - July 10, 2020
Event Description:
Midland County Public Libraries (MCPL) offers patrons a full schedule of both virtual and in-person programs for National Summer Learning Week, July 6-10, beginning with a special Summer Reading Program performance by Austin-based storyteller Elizabeth Kahura, 11 am and 1 pm Monday, July 6, at the MLK Community Center, 2300 Butternut Lane. Kahura will share folktales from Africa to tie in with this year’s Summer Reading Program theme, Imagine Your Story.

MCPL will host the free event at the MLK Community Center to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Masks are required. Kahura will perform the same show at 11 am and 1 pm. Because of limited space and capacity, we ask that patrons attend only one of the performances. This event is made possible by Texas Commission on the Arts, Midland County Public Library Foundation, and Midland Friends of Libraries and Literacy.

Following Monday’s performances, MCPL will offer Fairy Tale Trivia at 4 pm online. Each day the library will offer virtual and in-person programs according to the themes set by National Summer Learning Week. All virtual programs are posted to the library’s Facebook page at the time listed. The entire collection of MCPL’s virtual programs may be accessed anytime on the library’s YouTube page or website. In-person programs such as Library Lunches and Take-n-Make are designed to limit person-to-person contact and encourage social distancing. Library Lunches continues through August 7 at the Downtown Library.
