Floyd Dodson – The Borderland’s Indispensable Man of the 1930’s -
Learn about the untold story of Floyd C. Dodson – the premier geologist, landman, and promotor of his time – and his 20-year quest beginning in 1923 to discover the next “Big Lake,” the oil field that first suggested that the Permian Basin might be a viable oil and gas region. Dodson’s work attracted scores of independent and major oil companies into the region providing a huge economic boost to Brewster County and the surrounding area during the depths of the Great Depression. Join us as Ken Durham shares his research that resulted in an article for the Journal of Big Bend Studies. This is a vital part of Permian Basin history you will want to know and share!
