Event Description:
The Bush Family Home State Historic Site has planned a great Valentine’s Day/Presidents Day weekend with events beginning Friday evening, February 13, and all day Saturday, February 14. There is something for everyone. The day before Valentine’s Day on February 13th, the Bush Family Home is hosting a Viva Zapata Date Night as part of their Atomic Age After Dark program series to celebrate all things Bush and 1950s. They will feature the movie, Viva Zapata, which inspired the name for Zapata Petroleum, which made George H. W. Bush his first million here in Midland. The movie will be shown in the visitors center beginning at 5:30 pm and popcorn and soda will be available. On February 14th, the Bush Family Home State Historic Site is planning a fantastic Presidents Day Event. From 10 am-3 pm, experience our living wax museum with children dressed up as former presidents and first ladies, telling their stories. This is to celebrate Presidents Day. If anyone would like to sign up their children, they can contact the museum at 432-685-1112 or write bushfamilyhome@thc.texas.gov. This is a great way for your child to research a president and first lady, find clothes that resembles the president, and find some fascinating facts. Site staff is available to suggest clothes and lines. In the afternoon of February 14th between 1-3 pm, the site will host a 1950s Valentine’s Day Sock Hop. Hula hoop and bubble gum blowing contests, 1950s music and more fun will be part of this exciting event. “We are excited about combining two fun holidays this year with little ones to help teach about the different presidents and for our Sock Hop,” Site Manager Troy Gray said. The Bush Family Home State Historic Site is located at 1412 West Ohio St. in Midland. The hours for the home are: Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; the last tour begins at 4:15 p.m. The Bush Family Home joined the Texas Historical Commission in 2023 and is one of 42 sites in the state of Texas.
