Texas Department of Public Safety Presents Plains All American with Service Commander's Award

Award honors Plains’ commitment to safety and [long / 18-year] support of the DPS West Texas Regional Challenge.

MIDLAND, APRIL 21, 2022 – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Highway Patrol Captain Jeremy Rowland, honored Plains All American’s dedication, service and support provided to the Midland 4A Highway Patrol District on April 6 by awarding the DPS Service Commander’s Award, the highest award presented to both uniform personnel and civilians, given by the Service Commander. The award was presented during the DPS West Texas Regional Challenge, which Plains hosted for the 18th time at one of its Midland-area facilities.

The annual DPS West Texas Regional Challenge is a competition that tests knowledge of vehicle inspections and skill to identify violations – all expertise critical to improving safety on Permian Basin highways. The event draws participation from Texas DPS Highway Patrol and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Troopers from the West Texas Region along with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers from the Midland Police Department and Odessa Police Department, with 15 competitors and more than 100 attendees representing law enforcement and industry.

“The West Texas Challenge wouldn’t be possible without Plains’ support and their commitment to safety,” said Sgt. Steve Blanco, DPS Public Information Officer. “This safety and compliance-focused event hones the skills of Troopers and other law enforcement officers responsible for enforcing and increasing compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Regulations, and making our region’s highways safer.”

“The overwhelming support our industry received from Texas DPS throughout the years improved safety by enforcing the Federal Motor Carrier Regulations on the highways, which not only keeps our community safe, but contributes to keeping our Plains employees, professional drivers and families safe,” said Plains Trucking Operations Southwestern Division Director Jeff Harper. “Ultimately, saving lives, keeping the community safe, and bringing employees and our families’ home safely each and every day is what is most important to Plains. Hosting the DPS Challenge is a small token of our appreciation for DPS and I look forward to hosting these events in the future.”
